HELP! Basil plants under attack!

My poor basil plants are under attack from mealy bugs and whiteflies.

Anyone successful at getting rid of these bastards of nature? The internets was not giving me much hope that my plants can be saved. The internets is also claiming basil is good at deterring whiteflies, but the internets is very wrong.

Methinks I'll have to stop by the herb farm of doom and pick their brains. Not literally, unless they have mealy-bug-addled brains.

Mostly I just try the soapy water trip for my plants if I see something wrong. It usually works, but I've not had herbs before (at least the soapy water would leave them edible).

There's also a spray made from (oh, man, now I have to take a stab at spelling this and hope I get close enough for Firefox to understand and give me the right spelling...) chrysanthemum flowers which is all-natural and not toxic to anything but the bugs.
