A tiger escaped the San Francisco zoo at closing time, killed one patron and critically injured two others.

They shot and killed the tiger.

On one of the news stories, they panned to a sign at the zoo - there are more siberian tigers in zoos than in the wild. While I feel immense sympathy for the dead's family and for the injured, for some reason, that statement struck me as the most heart-wrenching. We live in a world where caged wild animals outnumber their wild wild counterparts. That's just sad.

You know, NPR reported on this and said that the zoo officials were looking into whether or not the people mauled and/or killed provoked the attack. As soon as I heard that the victims were brothers aged 19-23, I thought "Of course it was provoked. That's what guys that age do."
I guess I really do have that little faith in people.
