I set my peanut butter jar next to my cup of tea and promptly dipped my celery into my mug. I don't rec'd it.

I'm not offended at all. :)

I read those blogs for a couple reasons. I think both have well-thought out posts on BSL and pit-bull related issues that I agree on. I tend to agree with them on castration issues for different reasons. I think most dogs and cat should be castrated, but mandatory spay/neuter laws do not help animals and so I am an avid opponent of legislation requiring the castration of animals. (I'll explain if you want to know the reasons, heh).

I don't agree with a lot of what they post re non-BSL legislation, HSUS and many of their "animal rights" entries. Those I tend to automatically skip, because they get my blood boiling, heh.

I added them to my blog list, because of the pit bull issues and because they get me thinking. I like being challenged and reading cogent, opposing arguments on certain issues is something I enjoy. It can give me insight on how to better respond to people with those concerns, and it might also force me to re-evaluate my own positions on issues. Some of the entries, however, piss me off and I just move on.

Hope that explains it better. I should probably title that list "Blogs I read but don't necessarily endorse" :)

I meant to thank you on Monday for your response. I really appreciated it. I do know what you mean about the value of reading well-constructed arguments from a viewpoint opposed to one's own. (Sometimes I read the Wall Street Journal editorial page just for this.) And I would definitely be interested in hearing more of your thoughts about spaying/neutering.

I don't think I support mandatory spay/neuter laws, because it would be too easy to decide to apply them to only one breed and have it become BSL, because it seems like eugenics, and because I think people should be free to make that decision on an individual basis.

But I also see so many dogs come into our shelter from backyard breeders, and I get so frustrated... Like I said, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this issue. I guess I haven't thought about it that much.
